Histogram Plot method

This method is the main graphical user interface in which input distributions of the project can be shown. Thus, validation of correct histogram shapes and exact position of the nominal solution is allowed. It is recommended to provide such type of check before an actual uncertainty propagation run to prevent solver crashes and eliminate misinterpretation of results. It requires UQ method’s *.txt files for its operation and is able to provide graphical outputs in form of *.png or *.pdf files.

How to use it: #

Window’s Menu bar contains items controlling basic functions of the program. Under the File item can be found the Clean option restoring the method and program’s memory to its initial state, the Save option storing the output graphics (which becomes active after a histogram is shown), and the Quit option closing the whole Input prerocessor window. About item of the Menu bar contains features accessing this document (Help) and company information and contact (Company).

Main working frame of the window is split into two sections. On the left side there is a panel with variable controlling buttons (these are visible when variable names are loaded) and the Options frame with the Apply button below, initializing all changes to the histogram plot. Figure itself can be found on the right side of the window.

Buttons: #

  • Variable buttons: Each button is labeled as the controlled input variable. It selects the variable to be displayed. Stays inactive until the XDis.txt file is loaded.
  • Load Variable Names: Loads input distribution names from the InputSet.txt file (or file with the same formatting).
  • Load XDis: Loads distribution values from the XDis.txt file (or file with the same formatting). Loaded file must be compatible with number of loaded distribution names.
  • Load Input Domain File: Loads distribution boundaries from the InputDomain.txt file (or file with the same formatting). Loaded file must be compatible with loaded distributions. The button is visible only when the XDis.txt file is loaded correctly.
  • Apply: Redraws the histogram to show all changes to its appearance made by settings in the Options section. The button is visible only when all input files are loaded.

Entry fields and switches: #

  • Maximize Plot: Stretches the figure to fill the Main working frame completely.
  • Plot title: Title of the plot can be set here.
  • X-axis label: Label of input distribution’s axis can be set here.
  • Y-axis label: Label of input distribution’s axis can be set here.
  • Bin Count: Sets the number of histogram bins.
  • Range: Allows to change the range of the depicted histogram. It applies to the figure only, the input distribution itself remains unchanged. This feature is activated via the switch on the left.
  • Histogram color: Color of the histogram can be chosen form the combobox on the right.
  • Normalize plot: Histogram can show absolute numbers of values for each bin or the probability density.
  • Log. vertical axis: It is more convenient to switch to the logarithmic vertical axis for some input distribution types.
  • Mean value: Allows to show the mean value of the input distribution as a vertical line. Color of this line can be chosen from the Line color combobox on the right.
  • Nominal sample: Allows to show the position of distribution’s nominal sample as a vertical line. Color of this line can be chosen from the Line color combobox on the right.
  • Boundaries: Allows to show positions of distribution’s boundaries as vertical lines. Color of these lines can be chosen from the Line color combobox on the right.
  • Legend: Switches the legend of the plot on/off.
  • Legend font size: Size of the legend font can be is set in the entry field on the right.
  • Title font: Style of the title font can be selected from the combobox, its size is set in the Font size entry field on the right.
  • Axis font: Style of the axis label font can be selected from the combobox, its size is set in the Font size entry field on the right.
